just signed up for windows live messenger... i guess someone pm me so we can be friends on msn for mahjong

and btw i dont exactly get the point of calling kan/pon/chi
why would you want others to know your hand?

To complete the needed melds. For example, if you have 2 Red Element Tile and someone discard another one you can call Pon.
It doesn't matter if this part of the hand is shown to the opponents now because it is complete. It doesn't help much for the opponents to guess other tiles because a triplet of the element tiles are a Yaku on its own, because it counts as a Yaku, your opponents should be more cautious about what tile they discard now because you can call ron if the hidden tiles of your hand is complete.

But you are right, in general you don't want to call things namelessly,plan out the Yaku you want then work from there.
