Special upgrades and elemental reforges

I've been wondering this for awhile now. Does having a high level elemental reforge on a weapon change what kind of special upgrade is better to use?

Like if I have around 130% critical and a Champion Knuckle with a level 6 ice reforge on it which would be better?

I heard from some people there:s a cutoff damage where red outdamages blue on average case. Tbh, red imo is better as long aa you have high crit

I would ignore the damage from the reforge and just pick based on your damage without it.

Red Sun is better than Blue Sky
