you need ore fragments to make puppetry potions that aren't crap
but i don't think you can get those form metallurgy (yet?) so i don't really get it either

I think to use metal conversion to convert the ores for the chance at the other ores.
Also I like that guy's bear goblin video more.

You can get those ore fragments from a new life skill called Rare Mineaology from G18, I believe.
